AEW’s Kenny Omega Addresses WWE & AAA Partnership WWE/AAA/AEW

Former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega has weighed in on WWE working with Mexican promotion Lucha Libre AAA.

During WrestleMania 41 weekend WWE made the major announcement that they had acquired AAA, with the two companies coming together to host their first crossover event two months later with WWE Worlds Collide on June 7.

While collaboration has been one of the biggest changes in WWE under the leadership of Nick Khan and Triple H, AEW have been long collaborating with other promotions since the company’s inception in 2019, including perviously working with WWE’s current partners of TNA and AAA.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Kenny Omega said “it’s great to see” WWE working with AAA and embracing lucha libre in their product, while commenting on the variety of wrestling styles showcased on the current AEW roster.

Omega said:

“[Having complete cards] is the most exciting part of our show and our program right now. We have a lot of young guys that can do some incredible things. We have some bigger dudes on our roster, too, which we sort of had a lack of. Now we have the Bobby Lashleys, Powerhouse Hobbs, Samoa Joes.

“We have those boxes ticked. We have the Will Ospreays and Swerves and Hangman’s, who are just at their physical peak right now. Takeshita is another one of those guys. Now we’re implementing a lot of the luchador style as well.

“I feel AEW has really become, even now, especially with, I don’t know if you’d call it a merger, probably not the best technical term, but AAA working with WWE, they are introducing a little more lucha libre to their stuff as well too, which I think it’s great to see.

“In a perfect world I would love to show the various styles of pro wrestling so that people can develop an appreciation for it and if it isn’t what you like, there’s a chance that throughout that card, there is something that you are going to like because it’s not just going to be the same thing over and over again.”

Both WWE and AEW have huge events lined up next weekend with AEW hosting its first ever stadium show in the United States: All In Texas, on July 12, while WWE have a trio of events in Atlanta, GA lined up, with NXT Great American Bash and Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12 and WWE Evolution on July 13.

AEW International Champion Kenny Omega will take on AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada in a ‘Winner Takes All’ match at All In Texas for the new AEW Unified Championship – for the full confirmed card for the event follow this link here.
