AEW’s Kenny Omega has addressed uncertainty surrounding his potential in-ring return match, ahead of NJPW Wrestle Dynasty.
While Omega hasn’t wrestled since early December 2023, the popular star recently stated that he hopes he’s healthy enough to make his return to the ring at the January 5 crossover event.
Speaking with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Omega has now explained why his return match hasn’t officially been announced.
After opening up about his struggles with his health due to diverticulitis, Omega noted that as of now, he feels good enough to wrestle at the upcoming show.
Discussing the uncertainty surrounding his comeback, he explained:
“How’s it going to look when January 5 rolls around if that becomes a thing, I don’t know. I would like to take baby steps into that role again, and I think that’s sort of why I’m happy it worked out with New Japan, they were willing to facilitate a return for me.
“I was a little leary about how I was feeling, I wasn’t sure about how it would look, and I wasn’t sure it I could give them the kind of Kenny Omega Tokyo Dome performance that maybe they were looking for, but they weren’t looking for that, they were just happy to house my return.
“I guess that’s why I couldn’t really list an opponent, number one, I don’t know if I could do it, something may turn up a couple of weeks out which would put me out from doing the match and I wouldn’t want it to look like false advertising.
“Not only that, but… There’s an entry level opponent, where it’d look more like an exhibition, then there’s another tier of opponent, then there’s a tier above that and a tier above that. I really just kinda wanted to leave it to how I felt.
“But as of right now, I probably feel good enough to attempt one of those.”
