AEW Star Loses Championship, Expected To Join WWE

AEW Star Loses Championship, Expected To Join WWE WWE/AEW

SPOILER WARNING: This article contains spoilers for the upcoming January 17 edition of AEW Collision.

An AEW star has dropped his championship and is reportedly done with the company, amid reports about WWE interest.

Fightful reported on January 14 that Powerhouse Hobbs’ contract with AEW was set to expire at midnight, with WWE sources reportedly believing that he’s headed there.

During that night’s Collision taping, Hobbs, Samoa Joe and Katsuyori Shibata lost their World Trios Championship to Hangman Page, Kevin Knight and Mike Bailey.

PWInsider now reports that Hobbs is officially done with AEW, and was saying his goodbyes in the locker-room at the January 14 taping.

While PWInsider noted that the belief is he wants to see what offers are out there for him, they also reported that Hobbs has been on WWE’s radar for “some time.”

Dave Meltzer corroborated this on Wrestling Observer Radio, stating:

“WWE had expected that they had Hobbs for actually quite a while.”

Meltzer also reported that Hobbs had turned down AEW’s contract offer, continuing:

“(AEW) expected him to go there, AEW made an offer, he turned down the AEW offer.”

As of writing, Hobbs is still listed as an AEW World Trios Champion on the AEW roster page.
