There has been an update on the relationship between AEW and Scott D’Amore’s Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling following the first MLP shows.
Former TNA President Scott D’Amore’s new Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling promotion held it’s first shows this past weekend, with both nights of the Forged In Excellence event taking place on October 19 and 20.
The show was notable for featuring a number of current AEW stars, including International Champion Konosuke Takeshita, who competed on both nights against TNA’s Speedball Mike Bailey on night one, and defending his championship against Josh Alexander on night two.
ROH Women’s Champion Athena also defended her title against Gisele Shaw on night two of the show, leading many to speculate whether there was a partnership between the promotion and AEW.
In an update from Fightful Select (subscription required), as of now, AEW treats the relationship as they would with most independent promotions, with MLP reaching out to talent, and talent getting approval from AEW to work the show.
The company also needed to get approval from AEW/ROH to defend their championships on the show.
Maple Leaf was different in their willingness to promote upcoming events from both TNA and All Elite Wrestling.
The company made a positive impression with people in AEW that spoke to Fightful.
