There has been an update on Matt Cardona’s status within AEW following his ROH Final Battle match against Chris Jericho.
Jericho retained the ROH World Championship at the December 20 event with AEW star going on to say he would surprised if “something doesn’t happen” for Cardona.
Ahead of Final Battle, Dave Meltzer had revealed that Cardona has been “offered an AEW contract” though it was unknown whether he had signed.
On a recent episode of Fightful Select Report, Sean Ross Sapp provided further insight into Cardona’s status, saying:
“There had been rumours of him being offered a contract.
“I don’t know if that’s true or whatever the case may be there but he had told people that he wasn’t signed and wasn’t signing as of now with AEW.”
Following his match with Jericho, Cardona celebrated having the “top-selling shirt” on Shop AEW.
During the ROH Final Battle Media call, Tony Khan expressed his opinion on Cardona, noting that he wanted “to work with Matt more.”
The former Zack Ryder was released by WWE in April 2020 with his wife, Chelsea Green, recently saying he would “land where he’s meant to land.”
Green is the inaugural WWE Women’s United States Champion, with Cardona reacting to her win after the December 14 Saturday Night’s Main Event.
