Plans for Megan Thee Stallion to have made a deal with AEW star Mercedes Mone before making the deal for the new WWE SmackDown theme have emerged.
This past Friday was the premiere episode of SmackDown on USA Network after five years on Fox, which meant a refresh with a new opening theme song.
The new main theme for SmackDown is Neva Play by Megan Thee Stallion featuring RM of BTS.
However, before the deal was made for that to be the case, it sounds like Megan could have been doing some work with AEW instead.
According to PWInsider, a deal was expected to be made for a partnership between Megan and Mercedes Mone in AEW.
Megan and Mone reportedly met up at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards this past February, which sparked negotiations between their managers about potentially working together.
The two sides agreed to “do something together”, after which Mone hinted at it publicly and even suggested Megan potentially getting in the ring in AEW.
However, after Mone went public, WWE made the deal with Megan for the SmackDown theme, which “caught the Mone circle by surprise”.
The possibility of them working together in the future doesn’t seem to be completely ruled out, but it’s said the WWE deal “didn’t help” a potential partnership.
Reportedly, there was talk of them working on something together back in 2021 when Mone was still in WWE as Sasha Banks.
