Mercedes Mone has found herself in the crosshairs of a former rival, who called the AEW star out for being a “belt collector”.
With Mercedes Mone currently holding 12 championships it appears she has now crossed the mind of Stardom’s Momo Wanatabe, eight months on from their last in-ring meeting at AEW Revolution – a match that saw “The CEO” retain the TBS Championship.
Watanabe is set to face Saya Kamitani on November 3 for the World of Stardom Championship and the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship, the latter of which is closely associated with Mone.
Speaking to Tokyo Sports (translated by Google Translate), Watanabe had words for her opponent, but also seemed to target Mone, saying:
“Kamitani says STRONG is just for show, but that purple belt is cute. I will defend both belts all over the world.
“Also, that belt is strongly associated with Mercedes Mone, so I want to beat that belt collector for the belt. I don’t mind being busy.”
Mone became NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion at AEW Forbidden Door in June of last year, with the AEW star defeating Stephanie Vaquer in a Winner Takes All Match.
Her title reign would take her through to May of this year, securing her place as the longest-reigning NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion at the time of writing.
Harley Cameron recently shared her honest thoughts about Mercedes Moné’s belt collecting run, with her full comments found here.
