AEW’s MJF Addresses His The Iron Claw Scene Being Cut AEW/A24

AEW World Champion MJF has addressed his talking scene in The Iron Claw being cut from the movie’s theatrical release in 2023.

With notable roles in Happy Gilmore 2 and the upcoming Violent Night 2 under his belt, MJF’s career in Hollywood is looking promising alongside his success inside the ring.

This recent momentum in the acting world began with a role in The Iron Claw – the 2023 biopic based on wrestling’s legendary Von Erich Family – with MJF playing the role of Lance Von Erich – who was famously billed as a member of the family, but in reality had no relation them.

While MJF does appear in the movie’s theatrical release – and also worked as an executive producer on the project – his talking scene was cut – something he was asked about during his appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet.

Stating that he “wasn’t upset at all” by the decision, MJF said:

“I had a five-minute talking scene with Zac Efron, who I became really tight with on set. I would hang out with him in the trailer, he was the nicest guy.

“As an (executive producer), I wasn’t even upset, and I know no one’s gonna believe me, but this is the honest to God truth.

“I just wanted the movie to be true to the Von Erich story, because I’m a huge World Class fan.

“When I got the call from the director, he was like, ‘Max, I’m so sorry…’ I’m like, ‘Dude, this movie is too long, and this scene, while incredibly entertaining, does not help the length.’ Also it was like a sub story, it’s not part of the A story.

“I wasn’t upset at all, and I would like to think the movie came out pretty damn well, and I was really proud to have my name on it.”

MJF recently stated that a goal of his is to follow the Hollywood success of other pro wrestlers such as The Rock, John Cena and Dave Bautista, with the AEW World Champion aiming to do more of both wrestling and acting in 2026.
