Who Pitched AEW’s MJF For Championship Match In Another Promotion AEW

The name behind the pitch for MJF’s AEW International Championship match in another promotion has now been revealed.

Ahead of facing Will Ospreay at All In 2024, MJF defended his AEW American Championship against British independent star Michael Oku at RevPro Summer Sizzler earlier in the month.

With Oku having wrestled for AEW in the wake of the match, details have emerged as to who pitched the match against MJF.

Speaking on The FiveMarks podcast, Oku revealed that it was MJF’s idea to have the match ahead of that year’s AEW All In, saying:

“He for sure wanted to do that match because it would help him with his build with Will Ospreay in the lead-up to (All In at Wembley Stadium). It’s a flattering comment, a compliment really, that he wanted the match.

“This was all MJF’s idea. He just got the green light to do it, but it was his idea. He was like ‘I want to wrestle Michael Oku, I want to do it at RevPro, and I want to do it in York Hall, Bethnal Green.'”

MJF would retain the championship, going on to lose it to Ospreay at the August 25 AEW All In at Wembley Stadium in London.

Oku has since gone on to a number of matches in AEW, including a Zero Hour tag team match at Forbidden Door in August of this year.

That match would see Oku team with JetSpeed (Mike Bailey & Kevin Knight) in a losing effort against GOA (Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona).

Speaking about that match, Oku praised Bailey for showcasing what the RevPro star can do in the ring.
