Current AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland has discussed what AEW American Champion MJF was like when they first met.
At AEW Double Or Nothing 2024, former AEW World Champion MJF made his return to the company for the first time since December 2023.
In his first promo back, Maxwell Jacob Friedman called out Will Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada and current AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland.
During a backstage confrontation in 2023, Friedman and Strickland detailed their history together from before their time together in All Elite Wrestling.
In a new interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Swerve Strickland discussed what MJF was like when they first met. He said:
“All I remember about him was his hunger. He wasn’t afraid. That’s what set him apart – he didn’t have that fear of going wherever he needed to be to get better.
“Max wanted to be around great competition. Even when he was young, he always put himself around top talent and he wanted to test himself in hard conditions. That’s how he got so good at such a young age.
“I don’t think Max has anything left to prove. That’s how good he is. But he’ll never tell himself that or allow himself to believe that. He’ll always keep working.”
Swerve Strickland will defend the AEW World Title against Bryan Danielson in a Title vs. Career Match, while MJF will defend the AEW American Championship against Will Ospreay on Sunday, August 25 at AEW All In London.
