AEW Name Addresses First Match In Over Two Years

Former WWE star MVP made his AEW debut on the September 25 episode of Dynamite, seeking to secure the services of Swerve Strickland.

Since his debut on the Grand Slam episode of AEW Dynamite, MVP has reunited with former Hurt Business associate Shelton Benjamin.

Benjamin’s arrival took place on the AEW Dynamite 5th Anniversary show, with many hoping for a Hurt Business reunion with Bobby Lashley.

MVP is keeping busy beyond AEW, however, with his first match in over two years having been recently announced.

At GCW Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport XII on November 24, MVP will face Barnett.

MVP has shared his thoughts on the upcoming match and his shared history with Barnett, tweeting:

“I have always been a fan of Japanese wrestling & traditional submission grappling!

“Some of my 1st lessons in submission grappling came from the LEGEND, Josh Barnett.

“11 years later, I’m a Brazilian jiu-jitsu blackbelt. Multi-time grappling champion. Time to test myself.”

Barnett has also recently commented on facing MVP in a message of his own in which he noted their “mutual respect and admiration”.

The upcoming match will mark MVP’s first since the July 18 2022 episode of WWE Raw where he teamed with Omos in a losing effort against The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford).

MVP’s WWE contract expired on August 2 2024 with the star entering free agency after that.

During his tenure in WWE, he was a two-time United States Champion and held the Tag Team Championship with Matt Hardy.

Bobby Lashley’s contract also expired in August 2024, with Brody King recently teasing an AEW match with the star.
