AEW Name Makes Ring of Honor History AEW

Viewers of ROH tonight on Honor Club may not have realized they were watching a powerful moment in professional wrestling history be made!

On tonight’s edition of ROH on Honor Club, ROH World Champion Claudio put his title on the line in a match against NJPW star Robbie Eagles.

The referee for the match was well known AEW (and former WWE referee) Stephon Smitch.

However what fans watching on Honor Club may not have realized was that they were watching Ring of Honor history being made in the moment.

After the show, referee Stephon Smith tweeted about the match, saying:

“I didn’t quite know what @RefTurnerAEW meant when he asked me if I was “ready” before this match. He asked me if I was ready to make history as not only being the first POC to officiate an ROH World Title match but to join a list occupied by only him and Todd Sinclair.

“I can’t thank him enough for the opportunities he’s provided me during my short time in AEW. This was really cool and I hope you #WatchROH this week and every week.

Elsewhere on tonight’s edition of Ring of Honor, Willow Nightingale had a match against a debuting former WWE star and ROH Women’s World Champion Athena called out an AEW star for ‘coasting on her sex appeal’.
