Former AEW Star Debuts New Gimmick Without Mask

A former AEW star has killed their old gimmick, debuting a new character without his mask for the next chapter of his career.

Fuego Del Sol is no more, according to the former AEW star, who declared the name dead before addressing his future.

After losing a Mask vs GCW Career match during WrestleMania 41 weekend, the ex-AEW name shared a video on Twitter, during which the newly christened KJ Orso delivers a eulogy for his former identity, saying:

“We are gathered here today to lay to rest the career of Fuego Del Sol. Fuego Del Sol’s story is truly tragic.”

Without the mask, the former AEW star goes on to reflect upon the decline of the character, saying:

“Can you imagine getting swept up in a groundswell of love and support? To be co-signed by some of the biggest names in professional wrestling?

“To have millions witness you achieve your dreams on national television? Just to be regulated (sic) to a sidekick loser who was slowly forgotten about and let go.”

A regular in AEW from May 2020, Del Sol would be associated with names such as Cody Rhodes and would remain with the company until his departure in July 2023.

This would, according to Orso, be the point at which Fuego Del Sol died, being kept on life support in the aftermath, as he explains:

“Fuego Del Sol is dead, but Fuego Del Sol did not die when this mask came off. Oh no, he died on July 1, 2023, when he became a free agent.

“And, for nearly two years, I have kept him on life support, hoping any company would come revive him by scooping him up and realising that they couldn’t let all this sit upon the table, but alas, no one came.

“For two years, I have masqueraded around as something I am not. No matter how positive or motivated I was, no amount of hard work could respark the flame that already burned out.”

Very much continuing with his burial of Fuego Del Sol, Orson went on to take a shot at past fans, stating:

“Fuego Del Sol is dead and in that time, I have tried to suppress this anger that is raging within me, but for better or worse, it finally got out and it is damned scary just how much I like it.

“You may have knew me as Fuego Del Sol. Hell, some of you may have known me as KAGE, but from now on you will call me by my God given name and my name is KJ Orso.

“Hello world, you may have thought that Fuego Del Sol was buried a long time ago, but KJ Orso is the man that puts the final nail in his coffin.

“But, do not get it twisted – every so-called Fuego fan that stopped watching, that stopped cheering, that stopped caring all had a hand in digging his grave.

“Fuego Del Sol is dead. KAGE lives. I will no longer answer to the dead name of Fuego Del Sol but the whole wrestling world will now answer to the name of the Silver-Tongued Savant, KJ Orso.”

Fuego Del Sol lost his mask in an Anything Goes match during Joey Janela’s Spring Break 9 against Atticus Cogar, who had put his GCW career on the line.

The pair would be aligned at GCW Crazy Scary Hilarious on May 3, with the unmasked Orso betraying Sam Stackhouse and joining forces with Cogar.
