Report: Major Match No Longer Happening At AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door 2023 AEW

An update has emerged on plans for a CM Punk vs KENTA match ahead of AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door 2023 pay-per-view.

With the originator of the GTS (G2S) previously teasing a showdown with CM Punk, it seemed that we were close to seeing KENTA vs Punk face off, with reports indicating that a singles match between the duo was planned for the June 25 event.

KENTA has since taken to Twitter to claim that a match between him and Punk will never happen, fuelling doubts surrounding this dream match.

Per Fightful Select (subscription required), as of this past weekend, there are no longer plans for Punk and KENTA to face off at AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door.

According to the report, NJPW sources confirmed that Punk and KENTA were planned for the show, but as of this past weekend, the dream match is no longer slated for the event.

KENTA reportedly expressed to NJPW and AEW that he isn’t facing Punk at the event this past week, ahead of Collision.

KENTA’s previous tweet was reportedly in response to plans for the match being called off.

It was noted that as of the Collision debut episode, AEW was considering who Punk should face at Forbidden Door, and if he even wrestles at the event.

Punk returned to AEW TV on the June 17 Collision episode, cutting a promo and wrestling his first match since September 2022.

Another AEW star has shared a backstage photo with Punk from the taping, which you can view at this link.

Viewership figures for the first ever edition of Collision have now been revealed.
