AEW Collision commentator Kevin Kelly has provided a big update on his NJPW responsibilities, confirming that he will finish up with the promotion soon.
While Kelly became one of the key voices of the Collision brand in June, he missed several episodes of the show to call the NJPW G1 Climax tournament over the summer.
While Kelly has called NJPW matches since 2015, he has now revealed that he plans to stop his work with the Japanese promotion ‘at some point soon’.
Taking to social media to note that he still plans to call Destruction in Ryogoku in October, and Wrestle Kingdom & New Year’s Dash in January, Kelly wrote:
I am at some point soon but I’ll leave it to New Japan to announce it or not. I plan on calling Destruction at Ryogoku and Wrestle Kingdom/ New Year Dash
My wife of 32 years said she doesn’t want to be alone anymore so that’s why I made the decision.
When asked who should fill his shoes, Kelly replied:
Someone who can be in Japan all the time that has wrestling experience but is not affiliated with another company. Someone that can grow into and with the product.
AEW commentator Jim Ross occasionally appears on Collision to call certain matches.
Ross also recently provided a huge update on his future with AEW, which you can read more about right here.
