AEW Star Announces He’s Officially Representing NJPW Moving Forward AEW/NJPW

AEW International and NJPW NEVER Openweight champion Konosuke Takeshita has made a big announcement about his status.

Takeshita has been really successful this weekend, first defending his AEW International Championship and winning the NEVER Openweight Title in a Winner Takes All match against Shingo Takagi at Wrestle Kingdom 19 on January 4.

His win-streak continued through to January 5, when he defeated Tomohiro Ishii to retain both titles.

Following the match, Konosuke Takeshita addressed his current affiliations with both AEW and DDT Pro.

Takeshita announced that moving forward, he will officially be affiliated with NJPW, giving him a “three-organization affiliation.”

The NJPW Global Twitter account confirmed that Takeshita will be recognised as a NJPW star, writing:

“Konosuke Takeshita has announced that from here on, he will be representing DDT, AEW AND NJPW!”

Excluding Forbidden Door events, Takeshita made his NJPW debut in July 2024, competing in the G1 Climax tournament.

The then-AEW and DDT star had an impressive run, advancing from block action after finishing second in B-Block, before coming up short against eventual finalist Yota Tsuji in the quarterfinals.

Konosuke Takeshita made his AEW debut in April 2021, before officially signing with the company in November 2023. It was announced at the time of his signing that he was keeping his contract with DDT Pro.
