AEW Star Received Permission To Return To Former Home Promotion AEW

Ahead of his return to the company, AEW star Kota Ibushi says he received permission to return to his former home promotion.

Kota Ibushi officially signed with All Elite Wrestling in 2023, but he suffered various leg injuries in January 2024 that has kept him out of action.

At DDT Pro Wrestling’s Peter Pan 2024 event, Ibushi made his return to his former home promotion for the first time since 2017.

DDT then announced that Ibushi will compete on their August 25 event, where he will team with Danshoku Dieno and Akito to face Tetsuya Endo, Yuki Iino, and Yuya Koroku.

On August 7, Kota Ibushi took to social media to comment on the news of his official first match back in DDT Pro and since his injury. He wrote (via Twitter/X translation):

Ahhhhhh!! It’s been about 8 years. It feels nostalgic yet new.

Akito-kun, Dino-san. I only have memories of both of them. And I never thought I would cross paths with Endo, who I had entrusted to him. I’ve got permission from AEW, so everything’s fine. Oh, young wrestlers, please be gentle with me. I think I’ll go at full power.

Did he pick up the microphone at that time? Was it a coincidence? Was it inevitable?

The DDT bout will be Ibushi’s first official match since January 2 where he faced Naomichi Marufuji for Pro Wrestling NOAH. The former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion suffered a right tibiofibular ligament tear and a right ankle lateral ligament complex injury.

Ibushi competed in an exhibition match on July 1 to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of his debut.
