AEW Planning ‘Loaded Shows Every Week’

AEW returns to the road tomorrow (July 7) with Road Rager in Miami, and it seems like the stacked card won’t be a one-off.

With the added pressure of having to draw crowds in different areas, naturally there’s more to think about than when the promotion was running Daily’s Place for 15 straight months.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, one way that AEW plans to combat this is to hold “loaded shows every week”. He said:

“Matt Hardy/Christian (Cage) is coming soon, the date’s not been announced but it’s in the next couple of weeks, thank God.

“So the idea from this point forward is loaded shows, every week.”

The card for Road Rager is as follows:

  • Young Bucks (c) vs. Eddie Kingston & Penta El Zero Miedo – AEW World Tag Team Championship Street Fight
  • Cody Rhodes vs. QT Marshall – Strap Match
  • Jake Hager, Santana & Ortiz vs. Wardlow & FTR
  • Orange Cassidy & Kris Statlander vs. The Blade & The Bunny
  • Andrade El Idolo vs. Matt Sydal
  • Chris Jericho & MJF in-ring face-off

There are also some big matches that have already been confirmed for future dates, including Ethan Page vs Darby Allin in a Coffin Match, and Britt Baker defending the Women’s World Title against Nyla Rose.

With AEW’s large and diverse roster, as well as the introduction of Rampage in August, it’ll be interesting to see how the promotion fares in the coming months with this seemingly bold strategy.
