An update has emerged on AEW potentially signing Michael Oku, following his recent affiliation with the company.
While Oku has been a top name on the UK independent scene for years, Oku found himself linked to AEW in a major way earlier this year.
After defeating Will Ospreay in Ospreay’s final independent match before starting with AEW full-time, Oku challenged for MJF’s American (International) Championship at RevPro Summer Sizzler in August.
With Oku making his AEW debut in a non-televised dark match at the August 21 Dynamite taping, and his 412-day Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship reign ending during All In weekend, there has been some speculation that the British star is preparing to join AEW full-time.
This doesn’t appear to be the case however, with Fightful Select reporting that Oku isn’t currently signed to any type of AEW deal. Fightful also hasn’t heard of any plans for AEW to sign Oku imminently.
The report noted that Tony Khan has said that he likes the British independent star.
Oku last wrestled at the November 3 RevPro Live in London 90 event, defeating Ethan Allen in singles action.
