AEW Potentially Signing WWE Star Kevin Owens Update

AEW Potentially Signing WWE Star Kevin Owens Update WWE/AEW

An update has emerged on potential interest from AEW in Kevin Owens as his WWE contract is coming due soon.

Owens has publicly commented that his contract comes up in “early 2025”, and as of a few weeks ago, said he hadn’t re-signed.

Per a new report, WWE is now actively looking to lock down Owens before AEW could make him an offer should he reach free agency.

Earlier this week it was reported by PWInsider and Fightful that WWE has approached several key talents about re-signing their contracts a good amount of time before they’re actually set to expire – with PWInsider noting Rhea Ripley, Liv Morgan and Nia Jax as examples.

According to a new report from Fightful Select, Kevin Owens has still not signed a new deal as of now, but he too has been approached by WWE and “communication has been made”.

The report specifically says that Owens’ deal is expected to be up “at the end of the year”.

In regards to AEW, sources there noted that the company has “long had major interest” in Owens, and the expectation is AEW will make him an offer to sign should his WWE deal expire and he reaches free agency.

Owens recently lost a WWE Championship match against Cody Rhodes at Bash In Berlin, but has remained on TV since then, picking up a win alongside Randy Orton in a tag match against Austin Theory and Grayson Waller on SmackDown last week.

While WWE has re-signed several major talents this year including Drew McIntyre, Seth Rollins, Damian Priest and Sheamus, someone who recently went the opposite direction and left to join AEW is Ricochet.

Becky Lynch’s contract also expired and she’s still a free agent, although she’s expected to return to WWE after a break.
