AEW Rampage Gains Impressive Viewership Following CM Punk Debut

The viewership figures for the August 20 episode of AEW Rampage on TNT, featuring the debut of CM Punk, have been revealed.

As per Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics, the episode drew an average of 1,129,000 viewers. This is way up from the previous week’s premiere edition, which drew 740,000 viewers.

In the 18-49 demographic, August 20 show received a 0.53 rating, which is the second highest of any AEW show, behind the debut episode of Dynamite in 2019. The premiere episode received a 0.30 rating in the same demographic.

It was noted that the opening quarter of the show, featuring CM Punk, was watched by 1,341,000 viewers, and received a 18-49 demo rating of 0.65.

For comparison, Friday’s pre-SummerSlam episode of SmackDown drew 2,102,000 viewers, earning a 0.57 in the 18-49 demographic.

Since his Rampage appearance, Punk has revealed that his AEW debut was intended to be the “worst kept secret“. During the episode, Punk cut a promo, revealing that he will face Darby Allin at All Out on September 5.

Punk recently discussed the reaction to his Rampage appearance, defending fans who got emotional during his return.

Jon Moxley defeated Daniel Garcia in the main event of the show. Tony Khan has since provided an update on Garcia’s AEW status.
