AEW commentator Jim Ross has explained his reaction the Jon Moxley vs. Bryan Danielson WrestleDream main event.

At AEW WrestleDream, Jon Moxley defeated Bryan Danielson to win the AEW World Championship and end Danielson’s full-time pro wrestling career.

Post match, Moxley and the Blackpool Combat Club jumped Bryan with Wheeler Yuta suffocating Danielson with a plastic bag before Claudio Castagnoli stomped a chair around his neck to have him stretchered out of the arena.

On commentary, Jim Ross made the choice to not say anything and allowed the heartbreaking moment to speak for itself.

On the latest edition of Grilling JR podcast, Ross explained his decision to not speak during the ending of the WrestleDream pay-per-view. He said:

“Sometimes it’s best for one to just lay out. At the end of the match, I was silent because I didn’t know what I needed to say to continue to sell the moment and the fact that Bryan Danielson, by his own word — he said the day he loses the title is the day he’s done — he obviously lost the title, so I take him above any wrestler I’ve ever met at his word.”

“I didn’t know what to say. ‘Why didn’t you say something?’ Not my people, but just some fans. There was nothing I could add that would help it.”

“The pictures and the natural sounds, in my opinion, told the story very well. That’s why I laid out at the very end.”

“I know Excalibur got very emotional, he cried. I didn’t get that far into it but I appreciate his passion.”

Ross continued on to praise the AEW World Title match at the event, saying:

“Anyhow, that was a great match. It was a really good match, they told a great story.”

“It was physical, it was intense. If Moxley could bring that much passion out of Bryan, then good for him, it’s not that Bryan is not passionate, but you kind of had to go to a different level and different place with this scenario.”

Jon Moxley broke his silence on his reaction to defeating Bryan Danielson at WrestleDream on the October 16 edition of AEW Dynamite, which you can read here.
