AEW Receives First Five Star Match Rating

AEW Receives First Five Star Match Rating

Well, that didn’t take very long. AEW is off and running collecting those Dave Meltzer five star matches, picking up its first on its inaugural show, Double or Nothing.

The entire card averaged nearly four stars, with the Young Bucks vs Lucha Bros scoring 4.75 stars and the Chris Jericho vs Kenny Omega main event getting 4.25.

But, as many thought may be the case, it was the family showdown between Cody and Dustin Rhodes that got all five stars.

While the match was far from a technical masterpiece, it was an incredible story told by two of the best in the business.

Meltzer wrote: “This match was pretty much perfect for what it was supposed to be.”

Fair enough really, it was a truly gripping half an hour of wrestling which proved that you don’t have to be doing 8 flips a minute to pop a crowd.

If Double or Nothing is anything to go by, Dave better save up those stars because he’s going to be giving them out like there’s no tomorrow.
