Report: Top AEW Star’s Contract Likely Extended

Report: Top AEW Star’s Contract Likely Extended AEW

A report has emerged into the current status of a top AEW star’s contract which was reportedly due to expire in early 2023.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer was asked about Kenny Omega’s contract by a listener.

The listener commented that, previously, Meltzer had said that Omega’s contract was scheduled to expire in January 2023.

Meltzer would confirm that the dates were:

“January 30 or February 1.”

However, the listener went on to say:

“…But AEW is currently advertising him for the Winnipeg show that’s in March, does this mean his contract has been extended to make up for the injury time, or has he signed a new contract?”

Meltzer then provided more details of his understanding of Omega’s contract status, saying:

“As far as I know, he hasn’t signed a new contract, and I would think if he had, they would have sent out a release like they did (for Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley).

“But because he had all that time off with the injury, I think that they froze it and will extend it.”

Meltzer went on to discuss how the contract status of Matt & Nick Jackson may have an impact on Omega’s next move, stating:

“I think that he and the Bucks probably – like what happened (at the) end of 2018/early 2019 – I think that they probably all want to expire at around the same time.

“And then whatever they do next would be… they could split and make different decisions, but my gut is that they will probably be a package deal, and either all stay or all go.

“Who knows what’s gonna happen in a year, but I think that it’s to their benefit in the sense of going as a unit and the deals expiring at that point in time.

“But I do not know that there’s been a new deal, and I don’t think that there’s been.

“Because, again, I think if there was, like they did with Moxley and Jericho, they’d probably make a release about it.”
