The backstage AEW role that a former WWE and TNA Wrestling name is currently undertaking has been confirmed.
Josh Mathews left TNA Wrestling in February 2025, having served as a commentator, Senior Producer and Senior Director of Digital Media.
Having been seen backstage at AEW recently, Mathews was confirmed as having signed with the company in May.
His actual role has now been revealed, with Matthews confirming he’s working on the AEW production side of the business.
During a recent backstage conversation with Maven Huffman, Mathews stated he was shadowing Mike Mansury, saying:
“Right now, shadowing Mike Mansury. So, I’ll do the Ring of Honor matches before. Then I’ll sit and watch Collision. Then I’ll do the Ring of Honor matches after.”
Mansury is the AEW Executive Vice President & Global Head of Production, having previously served as WWE Vice President of Global Television Production.
The former WWE executive resigned from the company in 2020 and was hired by AEW in December 2022.
Mathews is also no stranger to WWE, having been the runner-up to Maven and Nidia in the first season of Tough Enough back in 2001.
He would serve as a backstage interviewer in WWE, going on to a small number of matches before moving into a commentary role until his release in June 2014.
