‘Updated Policy’ To Affect Upcoming AEW Shows AEW

Details of the ‘updated policy’ have been revealed for how and when AEW can use wrestlers from their international partners.

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite saw wrestlers from CMLL and AAA feature, with it being reported that Tony Khan had been able to smooth over the relationship that seemingly previously prevented such an occurrence.

With AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door also featuring wrestlers from international partnerships, details of the ‘updated policy’ was revealed in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Exploring the policy, which is still subject to negotiations, Dave Meltzer wrote:

The updated policy is that, and things are subject to negotiations with AEW, CMLL and New Japan, seems to be that people who have not worked for AAA of late but are Mexican born will be allowed to appear on shows with CMLL talent.

The belief is that will include Forbidden Door. We were told that because Fenix hasn’t wrestled in AAA for such a long time that his appearing on the show was fine. Rush was a different situation, as he was on the show, but didn’t wrestle.

It is confirmed that unless things change, that Komander, since he holds the AAA cruiserweight title, would not be allowed to work on shows with CMLL talent, nor would El Hijo del Vikingo when he is healthy. If things are consistent, Bandido, when he’s back, should fit into the category with Fenix.

With MJF making his AEW Dynamite return on June 5, it was Rush who came out to interrupt the returning star.

In March 2024, it was reported that Komander had suffered an injury on AEW Rampage against Konosuke Takeshita.

AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door takes place on June 30 in New York with CMLL’s Stephanie Vaquer putting the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship on the line against Mercedes Mone’s TBS Championship in a Winner Takes All Match.

That match is subject to Mone retaining the TBS Championship on the June 12 episode of AEW Dynamite.
