AEW Star Was Supposed To Be Axiom In WWE

Scrapped plans for a popular masked star in WWE have been revealed by the man who says he was supposed to be under the mask.

AEW’s Blake Christian previously signed with WWE in early 2021, appearing as Trey Baxter on NXT and 205 Live before his release in November of that year.

During a recent appearance on Fightful Overbooked, Christian opened up about rumored plans that he would become a masked wrestler in WWE, saying:

“I believe we were setting it up for a little while. I had just wrestled Dante Chen and there was a backstage and I was like, ‘Superhero, huh?’

“They approached me when I first went and they were like, ‘We want this type of character.’ I’m open-minded for anything.

“Then, it didn’t happen. When (NXT) 2.0 came around they were like, ‘We’re going to do it now. This is a perfect character for this show.’

“I came up with a suit design and a name. It just didn’t happen. Well, it did happen, but it didn’t happen with me.”

Christian would then be asked if he was going to be Axiom, with the AEW star going on to confirm this was the case and that he was behind the character, stating:

“I was supposed to be, yes. I came up with all the stuff.

“I think the person they gave it to is great and he’s done a great job, maybe even better than I could have done.

“I’m happy to see it still alive and doing as well as it’s doing.”

While Christian didn’t become Axiom, A-Kid would adopt the role in July 2022 having previously competed in WWE NXT UK.

Alongside Nathan Frazer, the team known as Fraxiom are two-time NXT Tag Team Champions and are currently on the WWE SmackDown roster.
