Since its launch, All Elite Wrestling has shown what creative freedom can look like in a major American wrestling promotion. This can be exemplified perfectly in the form of the TNT Champion, Darby Allin.
Allin recently spoke with the Total Slam podcast where he was asked about being the first homegrown male AEW singles champion where he said it feels amazing. He also talked about the creative freedom he has been given to be himself. Here is the quote
“It feels amazing… When I set foot in AEW, and I saw what they had to offer, in my mind, I felt like I was the poster child of creative freedom. Of being somebody that ‘oh you’re going to let me have creative control, freedom’ I’m going to show you everything I can do, that I wouldn’t be able to do elsewhere. I feel like they realised that, gave me the opportunity with all of the videos, and even how I put my matches together, I have a lot of freedom with things. It feels really good, feels really good, and it feels like I definitely belong in that spot.”
Darby Allin won the TNT Champion from Cody Rhodes at Full Gear in November 2020. It was his fourth match against Rhodes and the first time he was able to defeat him. Allin has spoken about being the first AEW original champion before, saying it means the world to him.
