A top AEW star says he almost had a cinematic match against Mike Tyson.

In May 2020, WWE Hall of Famer and boxing legend Mike Tyson arrived in All Elite Wrestling to act as presenter of the new TNT Championship and then to confront Chris Jericho along with The Inner Circle.

Tyson was flanked by his entourage that featured UFC fighters Rashad Evans, Vitor Belfort, Henry Cejudo and more.

Appearing on the AEW-some podcast, Chris Jericho revealed that he nearly had a cinematic match based on the “They Live” alley fight after their angle. He said:

“Mike Tyson and I almost had a cinematic match. We were this close to doing it, Tyson vs. Jericho in a New York Street Fight, but we couldn’t make it happen.”

“We really were deep in negotiations too. We were going to do it in New York in an alley, like an alley fight, basically. Think ‘They Live’ with Tyson and Jericho, that’s what I had in mind.”

Chris Jericho and Mike Tyson would eventually align on AEW programming when the WWE Hall of Famer accompanied Jericho to the ring on Dynamite in a match against Dax Harwood in April 2021.
