AEW Star Competes In First Match Since 2022 AEW

An AEW star returned to the ring for the first time since mid 2022 at last night’s GCW Bloodsport XII event in New Jersey.

The 12th Bloodsport event was one notable for it featuring both WWE and AEW stars in one place.

WWE NXT’s Karmen Petrovic and Charlie Dempsey both secured wins, defeating Sumie Sakai and Tracy Williams respectively, while Dempsey’s No Quarter Catch Crew stablemate Myles Borne fell short to Royce Isaacs.

While on the AEW side Marina Shafir – who was accompanied by AEW World Champion Jon Moxley – knocked off Jody Threat.

In the show’s main event however, was another AEW star and someone who had not competed inside a ring since the July 18 edition of WWE Raw.

That star being The Hurt Syndicate’s MVP, who took on Josh Barnett for the very first time.

While it was the pair’s first official encounter inside a ring, MVP detailed their shared history heading into the bout – partly attributing his status as a blackbelt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu to Barnett’s early lessons 11 years prior.

Unfortunately for MVP, Barnett was victorious in the bout, with the former UFC fighter making MVP pass out with a rear naked choke.

It remains to be seen when MVP will compete in his new home of AEW, however, he did recently affirm his intention to do so – even saying he intends to retire in the company – click here for full details.
