NJPW has officially confirmed an AEW star for a double title match, following their title defence at the Worlds End 2024.
Following a previous challenge, it was announced in November that Konosuke Takeshita will challenge for Shingo Takagi’s NEVER Openweight Championship at the January 4 Wrestle Kingdom 19 show, ahead of the winner defending the gold against Tomohiro Ishii at the following night’s Wrestle Dynasty crossover event.
It was noted at the time that if Takeshita is still AEW International Champion come January 4, his match with Takagi will be a double title bout.
NJPW has now officially announced Takagi vs Takeshita as a double title match, following Takeshita defending his International Title against Powerhouse Hobbs at AEW Worlds End.
Confirming that the winner of this Wrestle Kingdom match will defend both titles at Wrestle Dynasty, NJPW shared the following announcement:
After a successful defence Saturday at the World’s End event against Powerhouse Will Hobbs, Konosuke Takeshita will defend the AEW International Championship against Shingo Takagi’s NEVER title in a title for title match at Wrestle Kingdom.
Not only that, but the next night at Wrestle Dynasty, Tomohiro Ishii will challenge for both championships. Who will emerge with all the gold?
The Wrestle Dynasty crossover show will feature stars from NJPW, AEW, ROH, STARDOM and CMLL.
