Tony Khan announced a dream match for next week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, when AAA star El Hijo Del Vikingo comes to Dynamite to take on Kenny Omega.
The match between the two men was originally set to take place in 2021, but was postponed due to injuries to Omega.
Christopher Daniels, who serves as AEW’s head of talent relations, recently spoke exclusively to Wrestling Inc, where he discussed how the match between Vikingo and Omega came about.
Daniels explained:
“Well, I feel like the desire to have Vikingo as part of our show has been in the works for a while. It’s just been a matter of logistics. The demand for him is strong. We don’t want to run him to death and schedules finally permitted and here we are.
“So, I mean it’s a great opportunity to expose Vikingo to a broader audience in the US. He’s on fire right now across the independent scene. Everybody knows him from his stuff in Mexico and I think this is the first of what could be many opportunities for him in the United States.”
Daniels himself is heading to AAA to take part in the Lucha Libre World Cup this weekend.
