AEW Star Set For Big Crossover Championship Match

AEW Star Set For Big Crossover Championship Match AEW/NJPW

Following the end of NJPW Power Struggle 2024, AEW star Ricochet is now set to face Zack Sabre Jr. in an interpromotional match.

At NJPW Power Struggle, AEW’s Ricochet made his return to New Japan Pro Wrestling for the first time in nearly seven years.

After Zack Sabre Jr. defeated Shingo Takagi to retain the IWGP World Heavyweight Title, the former WWE star hit the ring to attack Sabre Jr. and issue a challenge for his title.

On November 6, NJPW announced that Ricochet will face Zack Sabre Jr. in a special singles match at Wrestle Dynasty from the Tokyo Dome on January 5, 2025. The announcement reads:

After a shocking end to Power Struggle on November 4, the first match is official for Wrestle Dynasty on January 5 2025, as Ricochet and Zack Sabre Jr. will go one on one!

Ricochet made his presence felt, quite literally in Sabre’s case, with a springboard lariat that took the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion by surprise at the end of Power Struggle Monday. Taking the microphone, the former Best of the Super Jr. winner said that it was ‘time to show the world, I’m still the man around here’ before issuing a challenge for the world title.

Bydeclaring his spot for January 5, Ricochet is taking a gamble that Sabre will still be champion heading into Wrestle Dynasty. Either way though, with a physical shot to the TMDK frontman, Ricochet will have to answer for his actions come January 5 in the Tokyo Dome!

New Japan also announced that Zack Sabre Jr. will defend the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Shota Umino at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 19 on January 4, 2025. It is expected the Wrestle Dynasty match will be for the title if Sabre Jr. retains.
