WWE made it’s latest batch of roster cuts last night, when 22 stars across the main roster and NXT were released.
The first name confirmed to be released was Mustafa Ali, who tweeted that he was no longer working with WWE early yesterday.
Ali had been with the company since 2016, where he was signed as part of the Cruiserweight Classic, before eventually moving to the SmackDown roster in late 2018.
Ali’s last feud as a part of 205 Live was against then-Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy, with the two having an incredible match on 205 Live ahead of Ali moving to SmackDown.
Following Ali’s WWE release last night, Murphy (AEW’s Buddy Matthews) took to Twitter to reflect on the match, putting over Ali as a true professional.
He said:
@AliWWE a true professional – A match people STILL talk about today! So cool!
Ali, along with the rest of WWE’s main roster releases from yesterday, are subject to a 90 day non-compete clause.
They will be free to take bookings starting on December 20.
Murphy was released from WWE back in June 2021, before he went on to join AEW as a member of the House of Black.
