A top AEW star has detailed a meeting he had with Tony Khan to form a recent popular trio on AEW programming.
After losing his AEW World Championship to Swerve Strickland at AEW Dynasty in April, Samoa Joe rather quickly found himself back on the babyface side of the roster.
Joe would almost immediately partner up with HOOK and Katsuyori Shibata on the show, where they have been feuding with Chris Jericho and his Learning Tree in recent months.
The clicked almost instantly with AEW fans, and Joe has now discussed meeting with Tony Khan to form the group back in May.
Speaking at Terrificon 2024, he said:
“It was kind of just talking with HOOK and knowing (Katsuyori) Shibata and seeing these two talents. I wanted to do something different with them. I wanted for the world to see a little bit more both of their personalities and so, I sat there and I sat with Tony (Khan).
“We kind of figured out, ‘Yeah, would this be kind of a good grouping of us three?…’ So that was really how it all came together.”
Joe is currently off AEW television due to him filming his role as Sweet Tooth in season two of Peacock’s Twisted Metal.
