AEW Star ‘Open’ To Tag Team Reunion After Real-Life Heat AEW

An AEW star has refused to rule out a potential reunion with their estranged former tag team partner, despite their previous personal issues.

Ortiz hasn’t been seen in an AEW ring since January of last year and has recently confirmed that he has been working in a producer capacity behind the scenes.

His former tag team partner, Mike Santana, is currently signed to TNA Wrestling, having returned to the company in April of last year to great success – capturing the TNA World Championship from WWE’s Trick Williams at TNA Bound for Glory 2025.

With Ortiz and Santana having had a somewhat fractious relationship in the past, a subject Konnan recently addressed, the AEW star has commented on a potential reunion.

Speaking on the Wombreezy podcast, Ortiz suggested that a reunion with Santana could happen “in time”, saying:

“There’s a huge part of me that didn’t want the tag team to break up only because I don’t feel we really fleshed out our full potential. There was signs of it, it was there, but really we needed to still evolve as a team, as far as the storytelling aspect of tag team wrestling, when it’s done well it’s awesome…

“…I feel we had glimmers of it, but we didn’t get to the top of our game as a tag team. So, if there was an opportunity, depending on the circumstances, I would say I think with time I would definitely be open to it.

“I’m a believer too in ‘never say never’ because anything could happen, the stars align in the right way, and it makes all the sense in the world for it to happen.

“So yeah there’s definitely a part of me that says yes right away, and there’s a part of me that’s hesitant. But definitely I think so maybe, who knows? Maybe when we’re old and grizzled.”

Such a reunion is potentially unlikely to happen in the next twelve months, with Ortiz revealing that he has around a year left on his current deal.

Despite being absent from the AEW ring since January 2024, Ortiz has been active on the independent wrestling scene during this year, competing for several independent promotions throughout the United States.
