‘The Crowd’s Coming Back Around On Me’, AEW Star Addresses Possible Face Turn AEW

May 28’s AEW Double or Nothing PPV was a monumental occasion for Sammy Guevara, receiving his first world title shot in the four pillars four-way against MJF, Darby Allin and ‘Jungle Boy’ Jack Perry.

However, more importantly on his way to the ring he would also announce that he and his wife Tay Melo were expecting their first child together.

The announcement received a large reaction from the Las Vegas crowd, with Guevara addressing his recent relationship with the AEW fans in an interview with TMZ Sports.

Guevara said:

“The crowd’s coming back around on me.

“We were not always the most loved people out there.

“For them to give us that big reaction. Everyone’s happy, showing us the love.

“It was just like, overwhelming in a way where I was like, ok, we gotta get back into it.”

Pre-Double or Nothing Guevara had begun acting more babyface-like, cutting an impassioned promo to his home-state crowd in Austin, Texas at the May 17, AEW Dynamite, as well as coming to the aid of Jungle Boy and Darby Allin from a beatdown from Los Faccion Ingobernables.

Guevara also discussed the pregnancy announcement, saying he was “more nervous” for that than the world title match itself, explaining:

“I was personally more excited for the entrance.

“I feel like we were like opposite. She (Melo) was more nervous for me for the match, and I was more nervous, excited for the entrance.

“I had to snap out of it.

“I almost started crying. It was just very surreal.

“Us four young guys, wrestling for the world title and then right before that, going out there and announcing we’re having a baby.”

While Guevara’s current AEW direction is unclear, the company as a whole are just four weeks away from their NJPW crossover PPV event Forbidden Door 2 on June 25.

The first match for that event was revealed at NJPW Dominion, with AEW star Bryan Danielson challenging a top NJPW name for a long-awaited dream match, to find out more follow this link.
