AEW star Frankie Kazarian has announced he’s relinquishing the IMPACT Wrestling X-Division Championship, just days after he won it.
Kazarian has decided to activate “Option C” – a stipulation in IMPACT where the X-Division Champion can relinquish the title in exchange for a shot at the IMPACT World Championship.
Kazarian had only won the title on Friday, October 7 from former champion Mike Bailey at Bound For Glory.
He will now challenge current IMPACT World Champion Josh Alexander for the world title in the near future.
Alexander has held the world title since April 23 when he beat Moose at Rebellion. He has recently retained against Eddie Edwards at Bound For Glory, then against Bobby Fish on last night’s IMPACT TV, which is when Kazarian made his Option C announcement.
There had been some question marks over the AEW status of Kazarian given his recent consistent appearances for IMPACT, but he did actually tape a match for AEW Dark: Elevation this past Wednesday before Dynamite.
