AEW Star Removed From Roster, Randy Orton Injury, John Cena WrestleMania 38 Status – Audio News Bulletin – March 1, 2022 AEW

An AEW star seems to be gone from the company, Randy Orton suffers an injury, John Cena’s WrestleMania 38 status revealed, and more.

It’s a brand new month, and what better way to get it started than getting up to speed with all the latest wrestling news. I’m Liam Winnard for WrestleTalk.com, and this is our audio news bulletin for March 1, 2022.

Chavo Guerrero Gone From AEW?

Chavo Guerrero made his AEW debut in July 2021 as the accomplice of Andrade El Idolo, but was only on TV until September when his alliance with Andrade was ended and he took time away to film Young Rock.

Well, yesterday it emerged that Guerrero had been removed from the roster page on the AEW website, despite having been on there just a few days ago and maybe even more recently than that.

Chavo Guerrero was Andrade El Idolo’s ‘excecutive consultant’

This seemed to come as a surprise to Chavo, who responded to the news by tweeting, and then deleting: “That’s news to me! I guess having @TonyKhan telling me to go film Young Rock Season 2, & my job will be waiting for me when I’m done, didn’t mean much”.

Khan has yet to respond and there’s no official word on Chavo’s AEW status. There’s a chance him being taken off the roster page could have been an accident or mistake, but it still hasn’t been updated since yesterday, so perhaps that’s an indication.

Randy Orton Injured During WWE Raw

Randy Orton appeared to suffer an injury during last night’s episode of WWE Raw.

During a match between RK-Bro and the Street Profits, Montez Ford landed a Frog Splash on Orton that seemed to land slightly higher up on Orton’s body than intended.

RK-Bro are scheduled for a Raw Tag Team Championship match next week

This led to Ford pinning Orton following the move in very awkward fashion, and then everyone standing around confused, except Orton who was down holding his body, and then soon Riddle and the Profits were all looking at him quite concerned.

No diagnosis or other update has come to light yet, but we’ll keep you updated if it does. Hopefully it was just a momentary thing and doesn’t derail any plans heading into WrestleMania.

John Cena WrestleMania 38 Status

Speaking of WrestleMania, WWE is loading up that show with big names like Vince McMahon, Steve Austin, Logan Paul, Johnny Knoxville, calling Lesnar vs Reigns the biggest WrestleMania match ever, but one man who we, pun very much intended, haven’t seen is John Cena.

According to Ringside News, Cena’s name did come up in discussions for WrestleMania, because pretty much everyone’s name came up in discussions for WrestleMania.

John Cena returned to WWE last year to face Roman Reigns at SummerSlam

However, it was never a realistic possibility this time around, and he is not scheduled for the event currently.

A tenured member of the creative team told Ringside: “Cena was discussed, as was everyone outside of religion and politics, but Cena was never a real possibility”.

Other Stuff

In other little bits of news…

Cain Velasquez has been arrested after a shooting in San Jose, California and is being held without bail. One man is in hospital following the incident.

As reported by PWInsider, WWE currently lists Ricochet as its number two singles babyface on the SmackDown brand internally, with Drew McIntyre at number one, so that’s why Ricochet has been getting a little bit of a push recently. The New Day members and Shinsuke Nakamura are listed as tag teams rather than singles.

The Vince McMahon/Oliver Luck lawsuit has a trial date of July 11.

CM Punk will face MJF in a Dog Collar match at AEW Revolution this Sunday

Esquire did an in-depth article on the story of CM Punk’s life and career. There’s probably nothing you wouldn’t already know in the article as a wrestling fan, but it’s still a good piece.

For the WrestleMania card, the Saturday on April 2 officially has Ronda Rousey vs Charlotte Flair as the main event, Becky Lynch vs Bianca Belair, and The Miz & Logan Paul vs Dominik & Rey Mysterio. The only match official for night two on Sunday, April 3 is the main event of Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar. Other matches officially set now are Edge vs AJ Styles, and Carmella & Queen Zelina vs Sasha Banks & Naomi, but we don’t know which night those two will be on yet.

Johnny Gargano tweeted that he’s now open to taking bookings following the birth of his and Candice LeRae’s son Quill.

AEW announced its Los Angeles debut for The Forum on June 1.

Finn Balor is the new WWE United States Champion

Last night’s Raw saw Finn Balor beat Damian Priest for the United States Championship, and then Priest turned heel, as well as the aforementioned Styles vs Edge WrestleMania match being set up, which involved Edge turning heel.

And on tap for tonight’s NXT 2.0 is Tommaso Ciampa & Bron Breakker vs Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode. Ciampa beat Roode in a singles match on Raw last night. There’s also Carmelo Hayes defending the North American Championship against Pete Dunne, Solo Sikoa vs Gunther, Von Wagner vs Andre Chase, and Harland vs Draco Anthony. Last week we saw the first two matches of the women’s Dusty Classic, so if we see the other two quarter-finals tonight, those will be Indi Hartwell & Persia Pirotta vs Dakota Kai & Wendy Choo, and Cora Jade & Raquel Gonzalez vs Yulisa Leon & Valentina Feroz.

Be sure to stay tuned to WrestleTalk.com throughout the day to keep up with all the news from the world of pro-wrestling, and I’ll see you tomorrow morning for another round-up.
