AEW Star Addresses Surpassing WWE Champion Cody Rhodes In Title Defenses

AEW star Kyle Fletcher has commented on surpassing current WWE Champion Cody Rhodes in defenses of the TNT Championship.

Fletcher will make his ninth TNT Title defense at AEW Full Gear this Saturday when he defends in a no DQ match against Mark Briscoe.

Having held the title for over 100 days after winning it from Dustin Rhodes, Fletcher was asked by TMZ about what it means to have surpassed Dustin’s brother Cody in title defenses, considering what Cody has gone on to do in his career.

Fletcher replied:

“Proclaiming that I’m the greatest TNT Champion of all-time, and surpassing Cody as well as Miro and Darby, it’s a weird sense of imposter syndrome a little bit to me.

“Cody Rhodes, currently like the number one star in probably all of wrestling right now, the top dog, and to be like, ‘Oh, I had a better championship reign than Cody Rhodes – look at me!’

“I don’t know. It’s a bit of a weird feeling, but it’s also very reassuring to me, like, ‘Oh, look at me, I’m doing better than Cody Rhodes, better than Miro, better than Darby Allin.’

“It’s a weird thing, it’s a weird feeling, but also it reassures me that I’m on the right path, I’m doing the right thing, moving in the right direction.”

Cody Rhodes had three reigns as AEW TNT Champion in 2020 and 2021, with them lasting 82 days, 31 days and 35 days respectively.

He’s now in his second reign as Undisputed WWE Champion, with the first lasting 378 days and his current reign currently at 106 days as of this writing.
