An AEW star has admitted that he thought that he was going to be fired after AEW seemingly lined up replacements during his absence.
Last year, the pandemic hit wrestling promotions hard. With fans and sometimes talent not allowed to travel to shows, companies had to adapt to keep their doors open.
John Silver has revealed that both himself and Alex Reynolds thought they were losing their jobs last year. Speaking on Chris Vann Vliet’s Insight podcast, Silver explained that while the duo were stuck in New York, they watched themselves being ‘replaced’ by 5 and 10 on AEW TV.
Here is the full quote:
“Me and Alex (Reynolds) thought we were going to get fired when the pandemic hit. New York was in lockdown, so we couldn’t go to any shows. And they Stu (Grayson) and (Evil) Uno are from Canada, they couldn’t do any shows.
“We had Brodie (Lee) do his debut, then after that, we weren’t there so they added 5 (Alan Angels) and 10 (Preston Vance). We were like ‘OK that’s it, those are our replacements’ because they both go to Cody’s school, The Nightmare Factory.”
For the first half of 2020, Silver only competed in 4 matches for AEW. From July, the Dark Order member began to compete more regularly on AEW Dynamite.
Previously known as The Beaver Boys, Silver and Reynolds debuted on AEW in 2019 before joining The Dark Order. The duo last wrestled on Sunday during the AEW Revolution Casino Tag Team Battle Royal.
