Lucha Libre AAA has announced that AEW’s Rey Fenix will challenge for Hijo Del Vikingo’s Mega Title at TripleMania XXX in Mexico City.
During Friday’s (September 23) press conference, AAA revealed that Fenix won a fan vote to earn the right to challenge for the gold.
Interestingly, Kenny Omega was listed as the runner-up in the vote. Konnan recently stated that Omega was unable to wrestle at the October 15 event due to his AEW suspension.
Omega was notably forced to relinquish the AAA Mega Championship in November 2021, ahead of his multiple surgeries. Hijo Del Vikingo won the vacant title at TripleMania Regia II that December.
Fenix last wrestled for AAA in August. He has since won the AEW Trios Championship with PAC & Penta El Zero M of Death Triangle.
The October 15 show will be the third TripleMania XXX event of the year, following the April 30 card in Monterey, and the June 18 show in Tijuana.
Here’s the announced card for TripleMania XXX in Mexico City:
- Pentagon Jr. vs. Villano IV – Mask vs. Mask (Ruleta de la Muerte finals)
