Current AEW star Tony Nese his ‘WrestleMania moment’ that us at home never got to see.
Nese wrestled Buddy Murphy for the Cruiserweight Championship on the WrestleMania 35 pre-show back in 2019.
Nese captured the championship from Murphy in his hometown, but he had some issues with how the match went down.
Speaking on the AEW Unrestricted podcast, Nese detailed his issues with the match being given a short amount of time, and running through a picture in picture break.
The pair then had a rematch on 205 Live the following week, which Nese recalled he and Murphy getting a standing ovation for.
He said:
“The last thing is 205 Live of all this.
“The cool thing about that match, if you listen to the crowd, we genuinely got them. You were able to feel it throughout the match and by the end of the match, we got a standing ovation from people who’d been watching wrestling all week long.”
Nese then continued on, detailing what he believes to be his true ‘WrestleMania moment’ after the 205 Live match in a dark segment with Kevin Owens.
He said:
“Kevin Owens was making his entrance or whatever [for a dark match], he even came out, gave me a huge hug and kind of gave me my moment in front of the crowd and everything.
“That whole moment, it felt like that capped off WrestleMania for me. That was my WrestleMania experience right there.”
Tony Nese was released from WWE on June 25, 2021, and current works for AEW alongside Smart Mark Sterling.
