The Los Angeles influence was clear during the Young Bucks match with FTR at Full Gear. Donning attire akin to that of the Los Angeles Lakers, they managed to capture the AEW World Tag Team Championship for the first time.
Now, the Bucks have gone into more detail about the attire and who they dedicated the match to. Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Nick Jackson said nothing comes close to the rivalry of the Celtics and the Lakers.
“FTR asked us if we’d like to wear something completely opposite of them. There was talk of superheroes and villains, but there is nothing close to the rivalry of the Celtics and Lakers.”
Matt Jackson then added that they had dedicated their win to Gianna and Kobe Bryant.
“We represent Los Angeles. We’ve lived near the area our entire lives and spent most of our career grinding in that city. Winning the tag-team championships was appropriate with the Lakers coming off their big title win, along with the Dodgers. Also, most importantly, we want to dedicate our title win to Kobe and Gianna Bryant. Their tragic passing hit all of us hard. The city of L.A. is still mourning their losses.”
Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna tragically passed away earlier this year in a helicopter crash. As one of the most iconic basketball players of all time, the Bryants’ passing was felt incredibly hard by those in the basketball and Los Angeles communities.
