There’s a new update on former AEW World Tag Team Champions The Lucha Brothers potentially joining WWE soon.
As previously reported, a report emerged online that Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix were expected to be leaving AEW according to ‘multiple sources’ within the company.
Reports from both WrestlePurists and Wrestling Observer Radio indicated that the former AEW World Tag Team Champions were expected to sign with WWE once their contract expire.
Fightful Select (subscription required) provided an update, noting that there have been discussions within WWE about bringing Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix into the company.
Those spoke to believe that the Lucha Bros want to be a “package deal” with WWE and don’t want to start in NXT.
One source close to Penta and Fenix stated that it wouldn’t be surprising to see them in Orlando to prepare for the defection sooner than later.
It was noted that Penta’s contract is expected to up first, then Fenix’s is due to expire separately around September.
AEW did reportedly want to re-sign the brothers, but they kept delaying to the point it’s become evident they don’t want to stay with the company.
They both recently filed trademarks for variations of potential ring names and/or catchphrases.
WrestleTalk will provide any further updates on The Lucha Brothers’ AEW and WWE statuses when they become available.
