Everyone finds different inspiration for their ring names. Sometimes you get it from movies or music but sometimes it is from comic books. In the case of All Elite Wrestling star ‘Powerhouse’ Will Hobbs, he got his from Spider-Man.
On the latest edition of AEW Unrestricted, Hobbs revealed the origin of his worked name. He said his real name (Will Hobson) is close to Hobbs and growing up his friends would call him Will Hobgoblin based on the Spider-Man villain. Here is the quote, courtesy of Fightful:
“My actual last name isn’t Hobbs. It’s close to that, so I had people growing up calling me ‘Hobbs.’ I’m a big Spider-Man fan, and I used to have people call me ‘Will Hobgoblin.’”
Will Hobbs made his debut with AEW last year appearing primarily on AEW Dark at first. Eventually, he went on to be signed by the promotion. After a brief run as a babyface on Dynamite, Hobbs turned heel on Cody Rhodes and Darby Allin and joined Team Taz. He has been working alongside Brian Cage, Ricky Starks and Taz ever since.
