An AEW star has opened up about the reasons they need to rehearse a major spot in a big pay-per-view match.
At AEW All Out in 2022, the big moment in the Casino Ladder Match may have been the return of MJF, but Stokely Hathaway also played a major part in the match.
Speaking on the Talk is Jericho podcast, Hathaway would talk about knowing that MJF was making his return, but also about his own involvement in the ladder match, saying:
“I won’t lie, I would say the biggest thing that I was concerned with is actually climbing the ladder. I never done anything like that before.
“So basically it was the beatdown with everyone from The Firm surrounding the ring and then Ethan Page, I pretty much begged him, ‘hey, you have to hold this ladder for me’.
“He held the ladder, I climbed up and grabbed the chip.”
Hathaway would also discuss the run up to the spot itself, where he asked for rehearsal, revealing:
“So, I’d say like maybe few hours before the pay-per-view, I went up to George and said, ‘hey, can we please have a rehearsal’, they thought that was crazy.
“I’m glad we did, because there was special way to that I had to prop my knees and legs on the ladder to not tip over, because there was a giant chain holding the chip.
“So If I would have accidently pushed it or moved different way I would have fallen off the ladder.”
As can be seen from the video in the Tweet below, Hathaway would successfully retrieve the coin hanging above the ring.
His victory would lead to the final competitor coming out as the Joker, being later revealed as MJF.
