An AEW star has revealed their feelings knowing that MJF was making a return to the company at All Out in 2022.
In June 2022, MJF cut a promo on AEW Dynamite taking shots at Tony Khan that continued the story of backstage tensions between Khan and MJF.
MJF had no-showed the AEW Double or Nothing Fan Fest meet and greet event in May 2022 with AEW stuff reportedly “unable to contact him.”
It had also been previously reported that both men had been in a heated exchange and that contracts and money were one of the sticking points.
MJF would make his return at All Out in September 2022, appearing under a mask and winning the Casino Ladder match with the help of Stokely Hathaway.
Hathaway has recently revealed that he knew of the plans for MJF’s return in advance while speaking to Chris Jericho on the Talk is Jericho podcast.
The manager of The Firm would discuss what he knew and how it made him feel, saying:
“It was very secretive, I felt bad, I wouldn’t say lying but I knew for a certain period of time that Max was coming back.
“So I knew that he was coming back, but it’s not up to me to tell other people, like what’s happening.
“I was sworn to secrecy, I wanted this act to play out.”
Hathaway’s actions would allow MJF to form The Firm in September 2022, however the alliance would only last until October 26 when MJF fired Hathaway and attacked his faction.
MJF would go on to defeat Jon Moxley at AEW Full Gear in November with help from William Regal to become the AEW World Champion.
He is set to defend the AEW World Championship at Double or Nothing on May 28, with his opponent being decided on the May 3 episode of Dynamite in a tag team match where Jungle Boy Jack Perry and Darby Allin will face Sammy Guevara and MJF.
