AEW Higher-Up Details Strategy That ‘Makes Sense’ Due To WWE Growth AEW, WWE

AEW and NJPW Vice President Rocky Romero has opened up about how other companies should work together due to the WWE’s growing success.

In May 2024, Romero confirmed that he serves as VP for Show and Talent Coordination in both AEW and New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

During a recent appearance on Fightful, Romero spoke to Sean Ross Sapp about how he bridges the gap between promotions, saying:

“I think that’s one of the unique things that I bring in my skillset that maybe others don’t have and plus I try to look at it as these relationships are important because in the end, it’s a business and it’s important to make money. It’s important to have projection for each company and each wrestler that’s involved in all this. So in the end, I think that that’s what’s important.

“If we keep the eye on the ball of what’s actually important, then don’t sweat the little stuff there’s always going to be issues. There’s always going to be problems. There’s going to be disagreements and that’s okay.”

He would also go on to discuss the “big picture” when it comes to professional wrestling and noted WWE as a part of that strategy, stating:

“But as long as we keep our eyes on the prize and see the bigger picture and another part of the big picture is WWE is a massive company and they’re only getting bigger and bigger now with the merger.

“So for the rest of us who are outside of that WWE bubble it makes sense to work together and kind of have this union between these companies who that have been around for 50+ years, like New Japan or CMLL and AEW has just been around for five years, but has in five years done some tremendous, tremendous things in the world, you know?

“So I think it all makes sense. I feel like I do want to speak on this.”

With Wrestle Dynasty taking place on January 5, 2025, the Tokyo Dome show is co-produced by NJPW, Stardom, AEW, ROH and CMLL, all of which Romero has been involved in.

The Young Bucks confirmed that they would be returning to Japan for the show which takes place the day after Wrestle Kingdom 19.
