It’s quite the year for the wrestling world crossing over with Street Fighter, with an AEW star’s role now confirmed.
With Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns heading to the big screen later this year for the Street Fighter live-action movie, an AEW star is set to feature in more familiar territory for the long-running video game franchise.
Kenny Omega has confirmed that he recently did motion capture for the character of Alex in Street Fighter 6.
The AEW star shared the news on Twitter, along with a number of photos showing Omega in the mo-cap suit, posting:
“Incredibly happy to announce that I’ve done some big mocap work as Alex in Street Fighter 6.
“Can’t wait for you all to see more, he’s my favorite character in Street Fighter 👀”
A trailer for Alex also appeared on the Street Fighter social media account, with a familiar looking move appearing right at the end, as can be seen on Twitter and below this news story.
Referencing the “Omega Wing Buster” move in question, the official would provide further insight, noting:
“What’s that at the end of the gameplay trailer? Alex has another Level 2 Super Art? Yes! After a successful OD Power Drop, Alex can transition into Omega Wing Buster. We wonder why this move looks so familiar… It might be because wrestling superstar Kenny Omega performed some of the motion capture for Alex! BANG!”
Alex first appeared in Street Fighter III: New Generation in 1997, with the pro-wrestling character “awaiting his next reason to fight” and new moves promised for his inclusion in the current game.
Street Fighter 6 was released in 2023 on PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series S/X and Windows, with an arcade version also appearing in Japan, and a Years 1 – 2 Fighters Edition making its way to Switch 2 in June of last year.
